West Chop Light, in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts stands tall just past a white picket fence. I felt fortunate to obtain permission from the Coast Guard to wander the property in order to sketch and photograph this handsome light. The autumn foliage was at its peak and created an attractive backdrop as the sun set. Under a pine tree and over the long shadows I found this composition framed the moment well. In the 45-foot tower is the only remaining Fresnel lens on Martha’s Vineyard, a fourth-order originally installed in 1857.
